Exception reporting is the process by which data driven reports are created in SQL Server Reporting Services that are sent out in the case of a data or maintenance exception. When the scheduled report is run, if the specified data scenario is met, a report is sent out to the list of recipients. If the data situation does not meet the designed thresholds, no report is sent. Examples include reports that show expected data sets that were not delivered in time to make it into the most recent cube build, reports that highlight potential server issues (low disc space, etc.), and reports that showcase data situations that require user intervention (unmapped AE’s, etc.). This concept of management by exception greatly reduces the number of man-hours required weekly to find and troubleshoot issues in the data warehouse.
BIAnalytix makes extensive use of exception reporting and is on the cutting edge of data warehouse ease of maintenance and performance.
