The data warehouse server needs disk storage that has High Availability. This requires at least RAID 1 and RAID 5 but is normally supplied through a SAN. Because the DW server provides new data to users only once each 24 hours, a cold backup server is sufficient for high availability although a 2 server Cluster is sometimes used. Users only access the OLAP servers for analysis and the updated cube should be replicated to multiple servers for both High Availability and scalable user loads. The portal should be installed on a Server farm to ensure portal High Availability.
