BIAnalytix Tip Summary: The Power of Strategic Planning with KPIs

Strategic Planning establishes the future initiatives that are important for a corporation. The strategic plan typically defines interdependent components that each needs to be achieved to accomplish the goals. In addition to their usual use of tracking corporate financial goals and the personal performance goals, KPIs can also be used to track the achievement of these components of Strategic Planning. These components defined within strategic planning process should be quantified as KPIs so that the progress of the plan can be monitored. As an example let us define a strategic initiative for the task "Establish a revenue stream from Internet video".

Components of the plan that might be relevant tracking KPIs could include:

  3. Close five (5) advertisers interested in pre-roll video by year-end

KPIs can be grouped together by the strategic plan initiatives and presented as a strategic plan status dashboard. This can track, at a glance, the progress towards the achievement of the components of each initiative.
