BIAnalytix Tip Summary: Analyzing the profitability of future Programs

By projecting Program Rights expense amortization over the future programming schedule, the projected revenue can be compared to the projected costs to provide powerful feedback on future margins over the planned schedule. To achieve this, the future scheduled programs can be assigned their expected amortized expense and then the remaining unamortized balance on the active contracts should be distributed over the remaining duration of those contracts. This distributed programming cost can then be analyzed together with the projected advertising revenue to compare potential profitability issues in the future schedule.
This Media BI analysis understandably required that both the Traffic spot revenue and program rights amortization are loaded into the Media data warehouse. Shared dimensions between the different fact tables should include the Programs, the Dayparts, the Program Categories, the Channels, and the Date and Time Dimensions. Calculated Measures can be defined to form the profitability for analysis across the shared dimensions.
