BIAnalytix Tip Summary: Equivalent Length Measures

In order to simplify reporting and make comparisons meaningful on both avails and rates, Media BI cubes should implement Equivalent Length Measures, for example “Unsold Equivalent 30s”, “Sold Equivalent 30s”, etc.

To compare apples to apples and draw the correct conclusions from your business data, a Media BI system should use a Calculated Measure to scale the different values within the cube by transforming them into an Equivalent Length Measure. Examples where Equivalent Length Measures are critical include: Break Capacity, Break Unsold Capacity, Spot Rate, Spot Duration, Spot Average Rate, Spot Min Rate, Spot Max Rate.

In television BI solutions, break and spot measures are normally scaled into equivalent 30's and Radio typically uses 60 seconds. Break capacity and spot durations are often stored in seconds but can be viewed as fractions or multiples of a standardized length such as 30 seconds. For example a 15 second spot can be viewed as 0.5 “Equivalent 30s”.

BIAnalytix is an advanced Data Warehouse and Business intelligence system that utilizes Equivalent Length Measures providing powerful Media BI analysis.
