The nightly processing will update data in the staging cube after the ETL has finished updating the data warehouse while leaving the production cube untouched. By using this approach the process to update the production cube can be set to automatically refresh the production cube only if the staging cube processing is successful, or can leave the data in the staging cube for reconciliation prior to a manual synchronization to the production cube. Either of these approaches ensures that the Production cube is always reachable and contains the most recently verified data.
