Data is partitioned across these multiple processing nodes and the results from a query are returned to the control node to put together. Aside from performance benefits, Microsoft claims an overall cost savings when looking at dollars per terabyte of disk space when compared to a traditional Storage Area Network. Also, because this solution is complete with software and hardware there is an opportunity for cost savings when it comes down to licensing. At the end of the day, the Parallel Data Warehouse can be a cost effective complete solution for processing complex tasks and exposing your data to all of your existing applications.
